Harris Tweed® Fabric Bank | Series: Part 4

In the final part of our series, we are looking back at 2020’s Fabric Bank recipients.

Due to the global pandemic, the extremely talented students from the Department of International Fashion and Cultural Studies at Bunka Gakuen University in Tokyo were unfortunate not to have an audience to appreciate their fantastic work, which they modelled themselves at their annual October show.

The HTA’s Educational Trust (HTAET) was delighted to support the “Σ Sigma” fashion show by donating the required Harris Tweed® cloth. The 6-month project was meticulously planned, and you can see an example of how close the designs came to their original sketches. The final outfits were a unique Japanese take on traditional Scottish garments, incorporating various techniques of layering and pleating.

“The students and teaching faculty would like to truly thank the Harris Tweed Authority for their sponsorship and all the people involved who made this possible. Through your kindness and generosity, we truly appreciate your contribution to the learning outcomes of our students.” – Professor Shibata of Bunka Gakuen University.

The Harris Tweed Authority Educational Trust will be running the Fabric Bank again in 2023 and will announce when it has opened for fresh applications.
